Pathway to Membership
There are 2 interesting and exciting pathways to a career in golf.
PGA Associate Program
Requirements to become an associate:
- You require a National Senior Certificate ( Matric or equivalent )
- Full time employment in the golf industry
- Working under a AA PGA mentor professional
- Handicap of 4 or better for men and 7 for ladies
- Need to obtain one score of 6 over (Men) & 10 over (Ladies) in the following events:
- Sanctioned GolfRSA Events through the SAGA or WGSA
- Sunshine Tour or Sunshine Ladies Tour events
- Bushveld Tour
- Big Easy Tour
- Playing ability tests (PAT) organised by the PGA of SA
Process for joining and a potential career in golf:
- Contact Education@pga.co.za in order to apply.
- Proof of payment of application fee (R3000) to accompany application form and other required documents.
- An interview will be set up
- A playing ability test might need to be played
- On acceptance joining fees will be payable
- Academic fees are payable annually
The Program Process
- The Residential: One week of compulsory lectures are held annually in Johannesburg
- Online learning & monthly assignments
- 1st year teaching ability test
- Annual exams
- 2nd year Event management practical
- 3rd year Teaching and Custom Fitting practical
- PGA Graduation!

PGA Education Providers
To join an Education Provider:
- You will be doing a NQF level 5 diploma so you will need a National Senior Certificate (matric or equivalent)
- Contact our PGA Accredited Education Providers in your desired study region for their additional requirements
