Iliska wins the double at Clovelly

Former Eastern Cape star Iliska Verwey clinched the double at the Western Province Championships when she overcame top-ranked Kim Williams 4/3 in the 18-hole final played at Clovelly Country Club this week. She had previously carded a second round course record 66 when she won the stroke play championship on Sunday.

On her way to the final, Iliska recorded victories over Lucy Lo (3/2), Alana van Greuning (7/5) and Yvette du Plessis (1 up).

Kim Williams had wins over Lejan Lewthwaite (6/5), Monique Smit (3/1) and her Gauteng North team-mate Henriëtte Frylinck at the 19th.

The flight was won by Lora Assad with an 8/6 victory of EC Junior Imkeleen Meyer.

Local Swallow Alison Vans Agnew picked up the B Division Championship with a 1 up victory over Paarl’s Saretha Maritz while Boland youngster Chanelle Bader won the C Division when she beat Clovelly veteran Isabel Firman 2/1.

The next event on the WGSA Provincial calendar is the KwaZulu Natal Senior and Junior championships to be played at Durban Country Club from 27 to 29 March.
