Lombard’s Amateur loss a Blessing

Bradley Neil became the first Scot in a decade to lift the Amateur Championship title after he edged out South Africa’s Zander Lombard in a tension-fraught final at Royal Portrush on Sunday.
The match was all square through the first 18 holes and remained a closely fought affair after the first nine holes of the final 18.
However, with four holes to play, Lombard lost the 13th and 14th holes and Neil went 4-up. The South African fought back valiantly with successive birdies to keep the match alive, but a par on the 35th hole was enough to seal a 2 & 1 victory for the Scot.
Lombard made the top 32 last year, but reaching the final was the biggest achievement in his career.

Richards delights in Limpopo win

In what should have been a memorable final amateur season, Monja Richards – by her own admission – has been a shadow of her former self over the last couple of months of the 2014.
Gone was the signature smile and the happy-go-lucky girl. Richards was suddenly beating herself up like she never had before.
The affable Mpumalanga amateur hit the winner’s circle in April, and after successfully defending her Limpopo Championship title this June, Richards is once again smiling like a Cheshire cat.

Fourth SA High School Champs wide open

Grey College and Goudveld High School will be counting on home course advantage to carry them to victory in the fourth edition of the SA High School Championship in Bloemfontein this weekend.
This year’s event drew a record entry of 20 teams, however, the absence of defending champions King Edward VII School (KES) and 2012 winners Waterkloof High School has left the tournament wide open.
