After scoring an unprecedented double triumph last year, defending champions Gauteng North have tripled their chances of a fifth successive A-Division victory at the 72 Hole Team Championship at Mossel Bay Golf Club next week.
On a day of high drama at Cullinan Golf Club, Basil Wright produced a champions shot in the final game to secure victory for Central Gauteng and wrench the Challenge Cup Teams Tournament victory title from the South African Golf Association Juniors.
While Boland beat Ekurhuleni to savoured A-Section victory in the South African Country Districts Tournament, Border popped the corks on a triumphant promotion campaign at the Fish River Sun Country Club on Friday.
Ekurhuleni crumbled under a vicious singles assault and went down 4 – 8 to Boland, while Border defeated Southern Cape 7 – 5 to earn their way into the A-Section of next year’s championship.
The South African Golf Association Junior side kept their title defence on track at the Challenge Cup Teams Tournament, while Central Gauteng and Gauteng North traded places in the log and Western Province rebounded from three successive losses in Thursday’s fourth round at Cullinan Golf Club.
The battle lines have been drawn and this year’s South African Country Districts Tournament will go down the wire as the top teams in both sections combat for glory at the Fish River Sun Country Club on Friday.
