Brandon Stone and Zander Lombard pulled out all the stops on Sunday to lift South Africa to a 23^rd place finish at the weather-reduced World Amateur Team Championships in Turkey. Playing purely for pride and position, Stone carved out a three-under-par 68 at the Sultan Course at Antalya Golf Club and Lombard produced a one-under-par 70 to improve four shots on their overnight total and finish the weather-reduced 54-hole championship on a team total of one-under-par 427.

Hoping to recover from a disappointing start in their bid to lift the country’s first Eisenhower Trophy, South Africa’s three leading amateurs had pinned their hopes on solid performances in the remaining three rounds at Antalya Golf Club in Turkey. However, thunderstorms so severely interrupted play at the World Amateur Team Championships on Friday that only six teams was able to complete their rounds.

And the country’s leading three amateurs will carry some red hot form into the 2012 edition of the world’s most prestigious biennial team competition, which tees off at the Antalya Club in Turkey from 4-7 October.
