Bertine Strauss and Vivian Horak
Young Bertine Strauss was awarded Women’s Golf South Africa’s Player of the Year at the prestigious Compleat Golfer Awards dinner held at Vodaworld, Midrand on 19 February 2009. At the same ceremony, a special award was presented to Vivian Horak who served Womens Golf for 11 years subsequent to serving her Province on their Executive and as President.
JG Claassen exceeded his own expectations in winning the 72 South African Stroke Play Championship which was decided at Pearl Valley Golf Estates today.
Enjoying the beautifully benign but hot weather, two 17 year old amateur golfers in Yubin Jung and JG Claassen moved into a two shot lead after the third round of the 72 hole South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship being played at Pearl Valley Golf Estates outside Paarl.

Bertine Strauss edged out Tiffany Avern-Taplin to claim the Eastern Cape Match Play Championship which was completed at Humewood Golf Club this week. In the B Division 16 year-old Katlego Mhlambi beat Charlotte Humm while Jenny Ririe picked up the C Division Championship when she defeated Sue Barton.
Aaron Russell leads by two from Derik Ferreira after the second round of the 72 hole South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship being played at Pearl Valley Golf Estates outside Paarl in the Boland.
Aaron Russell, over night leader, recorded a second round 73, one over par, which gave him a 36 hole total of 143, one under par, and a six shot lead after all the morning scores were returned in the 72 hole South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship.
Aaron Russell played in the worst of this afternoon’s south easter to emerge with a 70, two under par, and a one stroke lead after the first round of the 72 hole South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship, being played at the Pearl Valley Golf Estates outside Paarl in the Boland.
