In a very exciting sudden death play-off, Connie Chen snatched the Gauteng North Junior Championship from Gauteng’s Yushira Budhram on the third play-off hole at Irene Country Club on Sunday 25 January. Both girls had scored four over par 148 to go into the play-off. SA Junior Champion Bertine Strauss finished two strokes back on 150.
The South African Golf Association’s (SAGA) new ranking points system, applicable to the leading tournaments on it’s 2009 calendar, kicks into operation from the Prince’s Grant Amateur tournament, being played at Prince’s Grant Golf Club, Kwazulu-Natal, which concludes today.
Bertine and Connie join Annika in Orlando
South Africa’s top junior golfers, Bertine Strauss and Connie Chen were included in the group of 60 top internationals to compete in the inaugural Annika Invitaional, played at the Ginn Union Resort in Orlando, Florida from 16 to 19 January 2009.
The South African Golf Association (SAGA) announced the names of a 17 man squad for 2009 in Johannesburg today as well as the date of the first squad session of the year, namely 27 to 29 January 2009.
Swedish women’s amateur golf team
Adelaide, Australia (11 October) – Sweden held the lead from the start to finish to capture the Espirito Santo Trophy and win the 2008 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship by 12 strokes over Spain and 14 over the USA at The Grange Golf Club’s East and West courses.
Seventeen amateur golfers, some of whom were the leading golfers in the country last year, have turned professional the South African Golf Association (SAGA) confirmed today.
The SA Amateur Stroke Play entries close on 26 January 2009. With the criteria for entering being the Top 150 players on the SAGA ranking system as of 31 December 2008 or the Top 250 players on the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) as of the same date.
The relevant ranking lists have been amended after the Sunshine Tour released the final names of the amateur golfers who have taken up playing privileges for the 2009 season.
