In a very exciting sudden death play-off, Connie Chen snatched the Gauteng North Junior Championship from Gauteng’s Yushira Budhram on the third play-off hole at Irene Country Club on Sunday 25 January. Both girls had scored four over par 148 to go into the play-off. SA Junior Champion Bertine Strauss finished two strokes back on 150.

Adelaide, Australia (11 October) – Sweden held the lead from the start to finish to capture the Espirito Santo Trophy and win the 2008 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship by 12 strokes over Spain and 14 over the USA at The Grange Golf Club’s East and West courses.

Top 150 ranked SA Amateurs qualify for the SA Amateur Stroke Play at Pearl Valley

The SA Amateur Stroke Play entries close on 26 January 2009. With the criteria for entering being the Top 150 players on the SAGA ranking system as of 31 December 2008 or the Top 250 players on the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) as of the same date.

The relevant ranking lists have been amended after the Sunshine Tour released the final names of the amateur golfers who have taken up playing privileges for the 2009 season.
