The inaugural SA Mid Amateur Stroke Play Championships will be held at De Zalze Golf Course from 21-23 May 2008. The 72 hole championship is a Western Province Golf Union initiative and promises to attract some of the top amateurs from South Africa who are 35 years of age and older.

The Northern Amateur (previously the Transvaal Amateur) was played last week at the pristine Modderfontien Golf Club and attracted the countries best amateurs proving once again why it has the reputation of being the most highly ranked amateur event in the country after the SA Amateur.

DURBAN (5 March 2008) – Policeman Hugo Delport (pictured on the right), playing with his third set of golf clubs after his were stolen, has made it through to the quarter-finals of the Glacier SA Amateur Championship on another day of upsets at Royal Durban Golf Club on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old Delport, who works as a policeman in Pretoria but plays provincial golf for Ekurhuleni, beat 21-year-old Stephen Swanepoel 2 and 1 in the morning and then 22-year-old Ryan Clarke 3 and 2 in the afternoon.
