The first all-South African final since 2014 will also be an all-Southern Cape affair in the Sanlam SA Amateur Championship after Caylum Boon and Christo Lamprecht showcased their skills in a four-club south-westerly wind that pummelled the players in first the quarterfinals and then the semi-finals at Humewood Golf Club on Thursday.

Pickering picks his way to Sanlam SA Amateur lead

Slade Pickering went on a birdie barrage down the back nine at Humewood Golf Club to lead Sunday’s first round of the 36-hole stroke play qualifier the 2017 Sanlam South African Amateur Championship in Port Elizabeth.
The North West junior fired a flawless nine-under-par 63 to open up a one shot lead over Pierre Pinaeu from France and he holds a two shot advantage over Chris Woollam from KwaZulu-Natal and Frenchman Anthoine Auboin.

Higgo targets Sanlam SA Amateur

Boland junior Garrick Higgo believes that the time has come to end the foreign dominance in the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship. When Craig Ross won last year, his was the second successive victory by a Scottish golfer and the fourth win for Scotland in the last six editions of the South African Golf Association’s flagship event, but Higgo believes South Africa has the depth of talent to win the premier international championship, which tees off at Humewood Golf Club on Sunday.
