Lawrence makes history with Sanlam SA Amateur win

Thriston Lawrence became the first player in 36 years to claim consecutive victories at the Sanlam SA Amateur Championship in Hermanus Golf Club on Friday.
The Nelspruit golfer showed phenomenal form as he took on Bellville Golf Club’s Altin van der Merwe in Friday’s 36-hole final and beat him 5 & 4.
Lawrence’s victory sees him becoming the first player to take consecutive wins since Teddy Webber in 1978.

History beckons for defending champion at Sanlam SA Amateur Championship

Thriston Lawrence will get a shot at history on Friday, when he aims to become the first player since 1978 to claim consecutive Sanlam SA Amateur Championship titles.
The defending champion will take on Bellville Golf Club’s Altin van der Merwe in Friday’s 36-hole final at Hermanus Golf Club with the aim of emulating Teddy Webber, who was the last to achieve two consecutive wins 36 years ago.

Bezuidenhout crashes out of Sanlam SA Amateur

South Africa’s number one ranked amateur, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, was knocked out in the first round of the Sanlam SA Amateur Championship at Hermanus Golf Club on Tuesday. The Nigel golfer went into the match play event full of confidence after finishing the two rounds of qualifying tied third. But after a fierce battle, Scotland’s Ben Kinsley proved too strong on the day, eventually taking the first round match on the 20th hole.

Rebula wins Sanlam SA Amateur’s Proudfoot Trophy

George amateur Jovan Rebula was so inspired by his uncle Ernie Els’s performance in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship that it carried him to a one-stroke victory in the 36-hole qualifying tournament for the Sanlam SA Amateur Championship at Hermanus Golf Club on Monday.
