South Africa’s leading amateur Brandon Stone strengthened his bid to win the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship when he blistered the course in 66 strokes during the second round on the 36-hole qualifier at Mowbray Golf Club.

A seven-man delegation from the Scottish Golf Union’s National Squad will arrive in Cape Town today and their goal is simple: to deny South Africa’s leading amateurs a home title for a third year running when the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship tees off at Mowbray Golf Club from 26 February to 2 March 2012.

The South African team trailed the Scottish Golf Union Men’s National Squad by just two points going into the final day of the annual Test at Leopard Creek Country Club, but although the host nation launched a spirited comeback, the visitors managed to stay ahead and clinch The Leopard Trophy for the first time since 2010.
