David Law of Scotland found his putting rhythm and romped away from his pursuers to take the first round lead of the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship on Tuesday.

Alexander Levy of France stamped his authority at the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship with an opening seven-under-par 65 at Mount Edgecombe.

He leads by two from South Africa’s top golfer, Danie van Tonder, and is three clear of countryman Edouard Espana and Wesley Baptiste, who plays out of Prince’s Grant.

A determined posse of Kwazulu-Natal’s top golfers are ready to throw down the gauntlet at the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship, which tees off at Mount Edgecombe Country Club from 8-11 February 2011.

Jared Harvey, Gavin Sole, Steven van Heerden and Chris van der Merwe – all members of the triumphant 2009 KZN Inter-Provincial team – lead the charge alongside local favourite Michael Hollick.

France beat South Africa by four points, finishing with eleven points to the host nation’s seven, in the two day annual amateur golf Test Match which concluded at Gardener Ross Golf and Country Estate, located between Pretoria and Krugersdorp, on Friday.

The South African amateur golf team need to win every singles match this afternoon if they want to win the Test Match against France being decided today at the Gardener Ross Golf and Country Estate outside Johannesburg.

DURBAN (3 February 2011) – South Africa’s top amateurs are set to face strong international opposition in this year’s South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Mount Edgecombe Country Club from 8-11 February.

South African amateur golf team were given a lesson in how to play singles when they lost all six matches to France during the first day of the two day test match taking place at Gardener Ross Golf and Country Estate outside Johannesburg.

South Africa got off to a solid start in the first session of the two day test match against France this morning. They won two of the three matches.
