Blaauw and Frittelli in the Hunt

Jacques BlaauwBoth Jacques Blaauw and Dylan Frittelli are one under par after weather delayed day one of the 54 hole Barrett Amateur Championship stroke play which was played at the Algonquin Golf Course in St Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada. This placed the two South Africans in sixth place tied along with two other players.

SA Amateurs look to impress selectors

Dylan FrittelliThree of South Africa’s top ranked amateur golfers, Dylan Frittelli (1), Jacques Blaauw (7) and Cameron Johnston (5), will tee up in the prestigious 54 hole Barrett Amateur, an international invitational stroke play tournament, which commences tomorrow, at the Algonquin Golf Course in St Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada, knowing that a good result could improve their chances of being selected to play for South Africa at the World Amateur Teams Championships (WATC) (Eisenhower Trophy).

SADC Open postponed

The SADC Armature Open has been postponed as it was planned to coincide with the SADC Meeting which is Chaired by the Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa who is at present in a semi-comatose state in the intensive care unit of a military hospital in Paris.The SADC Open, for which the President’s Team was chosen, has been postponed.

The SADC Open was planned to coincide with the SADC Meeting which was to be held in Zambia next week and which is Chaired by the Zambian President who is unfortunately, at present, in a semi-comatose state in the intensive care unit of a military hospital in Paris.

As of yet no alternative date has been decided upon.

Younge to officiate at Open Championship

Bruce Younge - Executive Director of SA Golf AssociationBruce Younge, the South African Golf Association’s (SAGA) Executive Director, has been invited by the R & A to officiate at the 137th Open Championship which starts on Thursday, 17th July 2008, at Royal Birkdale, just outside the town of Southport in Lancashire on the west coast of England.

SAGA announce President’s Team

Louis CalitzThe South African Golf Association (SAGA) announced the names of eight players for the President’s Team to play in the inaugural SADC Armature Open Championship. This amateur golf event will be played at the Lusaka Golf Club, Zambia, from 2nd to 3rd August 2008.

“The team represents some of our talented young players who will be exposed to international competition for the first time,” said Neale Kunhardt, President of the SAGA who will also be the team’s manager.
