Johnston holds on to win Cape Province Open

George Golf ClubCameron Johnston, a member of Milnerton and stalwart of the Western Province Inter-Provincial team, played superb golf over the weekend to lift the trophy at the Cape Province Amateur. With consistently good rounds of 69-69-68 (10 under par), he held onto the lead to claim the win, by 2 shots, from Johan de Beer of Pretoria.

Cream rises to the top at Cape Province Open

Adrian Ford in the hunt at the Cape Province OpenAt the end of the 2nd round of the Cape Province Open a host of South Africa’s top amateurs remain in the hunt.

Cameron Johnston and Johan de Beer moved into a tie for the lead on six under par, two shots ahead of Lyle Rowe who in turn is two shots in front of Johan du Buisson and Adrian Ford.

Kelapile takes the lead in George

Alpheus Kelapile leads after 1st roundAlpheus Kelapile opened with a 4 under par 68 at George Golf club to take a one shot lead into the second round of the 2008 Cape Province Open.

The first round of play was only completed early this morning due to slow play and fading light on the first day but this didnt hinder the top amateurs ability to post good scores.

Inaugural SA Mid Amateur Entry forms available

The inaugural SA Mid Amateur Stroke Play Championships will be held at De Zalze Golf Course from 21-23 May 2008. The 72 hole championship is a Western Province Golf Union initiative and promises to attract some of the top amateurs from South Africa who are 35 years of age and older.

Clarke and Ferreira triumph at the Northern Amateur

The Northern Amateur (previously the Transvaal Amateur) was played last week at the pristine Modderfontien Golf Club and attracted the countries best amateurs proving once again why it has the reputation of being the most highly ranked amateur event in the country after the SA Amateur.
