DURBAN (4 March 2008) – The South African Amateur Golf Association (SAGA) announced its team for the Zone VI Championship as well as the squad for the World Amateur Team Championship at Royal Durban Golf Club on Tuesday.
In qualifying for the teams, players had to compete in at least two coastal and two inland tournaments, one of which had to be the SA Stroke Play, Glacier SA Amateur, Northern Amateur or Cape Province Championship.

DURBAN (3 March 2008) – Bloemfontein’s Louis Calitz claimed South African amateur golf’s prestigious Proudfoot Trophy after winning the 36-hole stroke play qualifier for the Glacier SA Amateur Championship at Royal Durban Golf Club on Monday.
The 22-year-old Calitz posted rounds of 72 and 69 to finish on three under par 141, one stroke clear of Port Elizabeth’s Naldo Claassen and Adrian Ford of Cape Town. Ford added a 75 to his first round 67 while Claassen posted a second consecutive 71.
DURBAN (3 March 2008) – Free Stater Louis Calitz holds the clubhouse lead in Monday’s final round of qualifying for the Glacier SA Amateur Golf Championship at Royal Durban Golf Club.
The 22-year-old signed for a 69 in the morning to lead on three under par 141, one stroke clear of first round leader Adrian Ford and Naldo Claassen. Ford added to his 67 with a 75 while Claassen posted a second successive 71.
Calvin Coelho (pictured on the right) and Derik Ferreira both finished the morning on 143.
DURBAN (2 March 2008) – Western Province’s Adrian Ford signed for a course record five under par 67 to lead the first round of the 36-hole qualifier for the Glacier SA Amateur Golf Championship at Royal Durban Golf Club on Sunday.
Ford, who is a member of the Ernie Els Foundation and is ranked third in the country, overcame a poor start and gusting winds to post a round of seven birdies, an eagle and two double bogeys on the new Royal Durban layout. He leads by two strokes over Port Elizabeth’s Divan du Piesanie, Kuilsriver’s Hendrik van den Berg and Pretoria’s Derik Ferreira.
DURBAN (2 March 2008) – Port Elizabeth’s Divan du Piesanie opened with a three under par 69 in testing conditions to lead the morning field in the 36-hole qualifying for the Glacier SA Amateur Golf Championship at Royal Durban Golf Club on Sunday.
With a brisk south-westerly wind buffeting the course, the 21-year-old Du Piesanie overcame a bogey on his first hole – the 10th – and went on to make seven birdies and a further three bogeys to lead by one shot over Welshman Craig Evans.
Former SA Amateur champion and the leading entrant on the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), Nigel Edwards, will start as favourite to win the 2008 Glacier SA Amateur Golf Championship which tees off at Royal Durban Golf Club tomorrow.
The 39 year performance director of the Golf Union of Wales is currently ranked 26 on the latest WAGR. “I had a successful year last year,” said Edwards. “I finished 4th in the European Nations Cup and 2nd in the Royal Lytham Trophy along with some other good performances which has resulted in my current ranking.”
