Indian golfers learn from SA’s success

The presence of a contingent of Indian golfers in this week’s Sanlam South African Amateur Championship in George is further proof of how golf’s return to the Olympics this year is helping the growth of the game in developing countries. The Indian Golf Union (IGU) sent a group of three golfers to play in last month’s African Amateur Championship at Leopard Creek and this week’s Sanlam SA Amateur at George Golf Club.

Franssen lifts Proudfoot while Manchest leads local charge into Sanlam SA Amateur

It started in an open field near Franklin Manchest’s home when he was four years old, and on Monday the 17-year-old golfer again underlined his potential when he finished as the leading South African in the Sanlam SA Amateur Championship’s 36-hole stroke play qualifying at George Golf Club. Manchest finished just three strokes behind Proudfoot Trophy winner Rory Fransse from Scotland.

Scots hungry for more Sanlam SA Amateur glory

Scotland’s Rory Franssen led Sunday’s first round of qualifying for this week’s Sanlam South African Amateur Championship in his first tournament appearance in South Africa. Franssen opened with an eight-under-par 64 at George Golf Club on Sunday to lead the 36-hole stroke play qualifying by three strokes.

Loubser keeps command at Sanlam Cape Province Open

It wasn’t half as spectacular as his blistering seven under 65 in the first round at Kingswood Golf Estate, but Herman Loubser still got the job done and protected his overnight lead in the Sanlam Cape Province Open Championship with a one-under-par 71 at George Golf Club on Wednesday.

SA team announced for 2016 All-Africa Junior

National pride will take precedence when four of the country’s top juniors line up in South Africa’s title defence at the 2016 All-Africa Junior Golf Championship in Tunisia at the end of March. The South African Golf Association (SAGA) selected Herman Loubser from Boland, Central Gauteng pair Marco Steyn and Dylan Naidoo and new cap Dylan Mostert from Ekurhuleni to chase down the country’s 18th consecutive title in Africa’s most prestigious junior team championship at the El Kantaoui Golf Course in Sousse from 23 – 26 March.
