SA team named for All-Africa Junior Golf Championship

A team of four of South Africa’s top juniors will take up the country’s title defence in the prestigious All-Africa Junior Golf Championships in Zambia this May.
The South African Golf Association (SAGA) selected Keegan de Lange from Gauteng North, Boland’s Herman Loubser and Central Gauteng pair Marco Steyn and Dylan Naidoo to represent the country in Africa’s most prestigious junior team championship.

SA primed for Argentinean challenge

Tristen Strydom, Jason Smith, Gerlou Roux and Hendrikus Stoop are primed to fly the flag for South Africa in the Southern Cross Invitational in Argentina next week.
The country’s leading amateurs will line up against top international teams from the host nation, Australia, Canada, Chile, France, Ireland and Portugal at the Nordelta Golf Club in Tigre from 26-29 March.

Wingate Park’s Teaghan Gauche underlined his growing status as one of the country’s top amateurs when he got past two Scotsmen, the country’s number one ranked player, a rising Italian amateur and a former Sanlam SA Amateur champion to claim the ProShop Northern Amateur Match Play title at Randpark Golf Club on Friday.

Son and Le Roux impress at Curro SAJI

Eagle Canyon’s Woo-Ju Son leads the South African charge in the Girls Division of the Curro South African Juniors International (SAJI), while Free State golfer Steven le Roux blazed a trail to the top of the Boys Division leaderboard at the 36-hole mark in the Global Junior Golf Tour event at Durbanville Golf Club on Wednesday.

Sherriff, Meichtry take early pole in SAJI

Michael Sherriff took early control in the Boys Division of the Curro South African Juniors International (SAJI), while Azelia Meichtry from Switzerland led the Girls Division after first round action wrapped up in the Global Junior Golf Tour season opener at Durbanville Golf Club on Tuesday.
Sherriff and Meichtry were among only four players that managed to break par on a very windy day in the Western Cape.

Buitendag in control at ProShop Northern Amateur

Jade Buitendag is targeting a maiden provincial victory in the ProShop Northern Amateur after lifting the 36-hole Mabs Abel Trophy at Randpark Golf Club on Monday.
The 20-year-old carded an opening 67 at the Bushwillow Course to share the first round lead with fellow Border native Andre Nel, but pulled away from the chasing pack with a three-under-par 69 to take the outright lead on eight-under-par 136.

Flower of Scotland blooms at Sanlam SA Amateur

Daniel Young from Scotland hailed his victory in the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship on Friday as the pinnacle of his career. Young defeated Southern Cape’s Jovan Rebula 8 & 6 in the 36-hole final at Silver Lakes Golf Estate to celebrate Scotland’s third victory in five years in South Africa’s premier amateur championship.

Southern Cape’s Jovan Rebula has one hand on the Match Play trophy at the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship after beating gritty competitor Calum Fyfe from Scotland 1-up in their semi-final at Silver Lakes Golf Estate on Thursday.
