Womens Golf South Africa expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of former SALGU president Bern Tribelhorn, who passed away on Saturday, 11 July 2015.
“Bern was one of the champions of the women’s game in South Africa and we were deeply saddened to learn of her passing,” said Womens Golf South Africa president, Karen Olivant.
South African number one Ivanna Samu is still on track to defend her Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur title, making it through to Wednesday’s semi-finals at Kloof Country Club. Samu beat two of her friends in Tuesday’s third round and quarterfinals. In the morning she knocked out Woo-Ju Son 5&3, and then in the afternoon she had to work hard to beat Natasha Carlsson 1Up.
For the second year in succession, Ethel Ruthenberg has shattered Cara Gorlei’s Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Championship dreams.
The 22-year-old Ruthenberg beat Gorlei 1Up in Monday’s second round at Kloof Country Club. Ruthenberg beat Gorlei in the first round last year.
Western Province golfer Cara Gorlei is playing in her last South African tournament in this week’s Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur at Kloof Country Club before heading to college in America. And she’s hoping a victory in Sunday’s 36-hole seeding round sets her up for a memorable send-off later this week.
Gauteng North’s Carrie Park celebrated a double return to the winner’s circle in the Gauteng North Championship this week and is targeting more success in the Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Championship at Kloof Country Club from 12-16 July. The GFG Academy player claimed the Stroke Play title on Monday and defeated Lejan Lewthwaite at the 20th hole to clinch the Match Play title at Zwartkop Country Club on Wednesday.
