Solid start for SA in Olympic Team’s Event

The South African team are well placed after the first round of the Mixed Gender Team Event at the Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. Notwithstanding the very wet conditions at the Zhongshan International Golf Club, Kyle McClatchie and Kaleigh Telfer combined for an opening seven-under-par 65 to finish in sixth place.

Texas State’s Assad shines on home visit

Texas State University student Lora Assad is relishing her return to the United States after racking up two victories and a runner-up finish at the prestigious Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Championship during her summer break at home.
Over the last six weeks, the 22-year-old Randpark golfer won the Gauteng North Match Play, reached the final of women amateur golf’s flagship event and put an exclamation mark on a productive holiday with a podium finish at the Ekurhuleni 54-Hole Stroke Play Championship.

Nanjing…here come Telfer and McClatchie

SA juniors Kaleigh Telfer and Kyle McClatchie joined other young Olympians at the send-off celebrations for the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Johannesburg on Monday.
The 50-strong Team SA departed for China this morning where they will join more than 5,000 athletes from around the globe for the games in Nanjing.

Samu sizzles in Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur victory

Ivanna Samu claimed her third victory this year and by far the biggest when she won the Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Championship at Ruimsig Country Club on Wednesday.
Ruimsig Country Club’s Samu became the first player in 38 years to win the SA Women’s Amateur on her home course after beating Lora Assad 2&1 in the final.

Giantkiller VD Walt shakes up Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur

Pretoria’s Ruzanne van der Walt thought she was headed home from the Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Championship on Tuesday. Instead, she beat two of the top-ranked players in South Africa to make it through to the semi-finals at Ruimsig Country Club.
The 20-year-old first beat Michael Fletcher 1Up in the morning’s third round, and then beat Carrie Park 2&1 in the afternoon’s quarterfinals to exceed her expectations for one of South Africa’s premier amateur tournaments.
