Gorlei extends purple patch at Gauteng North Champs

Western Province junior Cara Gorlei established herself as real title contender when she claimed her second victory in as many weeks at the Gauteng North Championship on Monday.
Fresh from a three-way play-off victory at the prestigious Nomads SA Girls Championship in Orkney, Gorlei notched her third title this season with a two stroke victory on four-over-par 223 after rounds of 74, 73 and 76 at Wingate Park Country Club.

Gorlei wins dramatic Nomads SA Girls tussle

Western Province junior Cara Gorlei became the first play-off champion of the Nomads SA Girls Championship since 1976 when she ended a three-player shootout at the fourth extra hole, while 13-year-old Kajyuree Moodley from Gauteng prevailed for a wire-to-wire B-Section victory at Orkney Golf Club on Tuesday.

Kang feels pressure at Nomads SA Girls defence

Ji Sun Kang claimed a magnificent four shot wire-to-wire victory at Orkney Golf Club last year, but the defending champion could have her job cut out to claim successive Nomads SA Girls Championship titles when the prestigious junior event tees off on Sunday.
Chief among Kang’s opponents are Carrie Park, Cara Gorlei and Kaleigh Telfer, respectively ranked first, second and third on the WGSA Junior Rankings.

Richards delights in Limpopo win

In what should have been a memorable final amateur season, Monja Richards – by her own admission – has been a shadow of her former self over the last couple of months of the 2014.
Gone was the signature smile and the happy-go-lucky girl. Richards was suddenly beating herself up like she never had before.
The affable Mpumalanga amateur hit the winner’s circle in April, and after successfully defending her Limpopo Championship title this June, Richards is once again smiling like a Cheshire cat.

SA reels in 11th AACT title in Kenya

For the 11th time since the All-Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) launched in 1992, a South African women’s amateur team claimed success in Africa’s most prestigious biennial championship on Thursday.
Magda Kruger, Michaela Fletcher and Cara Gorlei showed the same tenacity, commitment and determination as their predecessors to ensure the country’s successful title defence at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.

Fletcher, Gorlei take SA to AACT lead

Michaela Fletcher from KwaZulu-Natal carded a second round 73 to boost the South African team to the lead at the All-Africa Challenge Trophy at Muthaiga Golf Club in Kenya; credit AACT Kenya.
The South African team lagged one shot behind Kenya after an opening round 146, however Fletcher’s 73 and a 75 from Gorlei handed the defending champions an eight shot lead over the host nation at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.
