Selection Criteria

Selectors’ Picks

Selectors’ picks will take into account the following consideration:

Position on the GolfRSA Order of Merit.
Position on the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Outstanding performances locally and internationally, including NCAA Division 1 events.
Whether the player already has National Colours.
How the player competed when/if chosen to represent the country in the past.
Player behaviour and commitment.
Health and fitness will be taken into account.
Transformation demographics will be considered.

South African Open Invites will include:

Winner of the Sanlam SA Amateur
The leading three players on the Order of Merit at the time of selection
Selectors’ pick

Eisenhower Selection

When the squad of players is selected for the UK trip, a group of players will be nominated within that squad (could be more or less than 5 players) that will be the “Eisenhower Pool” of players.

In order to get into the “Eisenhower Pool” of players, the top 3 available players on the local Order of Merit will automatically qualify. Other players within this “Eisenhower Pool” will be nominated by the Selectors.

A minimum of 2 players from the “Eisenhower Pool” of players will be chosen for the Eisenhower Team by the selectors.

One player could possibly come from outside this “Eisenhower pool”. That means that a player who wins The Amateur or US Amateur (as examples) or has a string of successes locally or internationally would also be considered.

Toyota Junior Golf World Cup Japan

Traditionally we have automatically sent only the top players in the junior age group Order of Merit to qualify and then play in Japan.

A decision has been reached that any other Junior players within the top 10 on the Order of Merit may be selected. (This enables the selectors to have the option of sending the top players on the Junior Order of Merit to the United Kingdom to play in tournaments such as The Amateur, the Brabazon, the Links Trophy when the dates clash with the Junior World Cup in Japan)

General Junior Team Selection

It was agreed to a reduction of the junior tournament criteria of playing a minimum of two coastal and two inland events, to one coastal and one inland event.

Selection of a 4-Man Teams

The top 2 available players on the GolfRSA Order of Merit will automatically be selected and the other 2 players will be “Selectors’ Picks”, selected according to the points mentioned in the “Selectors’ Picks” section above. The Order of Merit automatic selections will only apply to players ranked in the top 5 on the Order of Merit.

Selection of a 6-Man Team

The top 3 available players on the Order of Merit will automatically be selected and the other 3 players will be “Selectors’ Picks”, selected according to the points mentioned in the “Selectors’ Picks” section above. The Order of Merit automatic selections will only apply to players ranked in the top 5 on the Order of Merit.
