Williams wins Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Championship

Kim Williams ended a three-year drought of major titles with victory in the final of the Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Championship at Milnerton Golf Club on Wednesday.

Williams beat Ji Sun Kang 2&1 in the final to claim her biggest victory since winning the national amateur double in 2010.

Giantkiller Kang targets Sanlam SA Amateur glory

The first bit of wind to sweep across the Milnerton links in this week’s Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Championship did enough to rattle a few major title hopes on Tuesday.

The biggest name to fall was that of the top-ranked Nobuhle Dlamini. The Swazi golfer, ranked number one on the South African rankings, saw her hopes of an amateur double crushed by a 3&2 defeat at the hands of Ji Sun Kang in the quarterfinals.

Ekurhuleni’s Boshoff claims top-20 in Switzerland

South African golfer Paul Boshoff claimed a top 20 finish in the 2013 Swiss Amateur Championship in Lausanne on Sunday.

The 16-year-old Ekurhuleni golfer fired rounds of 71 and 73 at the Lausanne Golf Club to make the cut, set at four-over 148, by four shots. Boshoff and carded a final round 76 to claim a share of 11th on four-over-par on the final leaderboard.

Easy start for Dlamini in Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur

South African number one Nobuhle Dlamini led the favourites into the third round of the Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Championship at Milnerton Golf Club on Monday.

After a first round bye, Dlamini enjoyed a comfortable 7&5 win over Durban golfer Claudia Redinger.

She was followed into the third round by the country’s number two ranked player, Kim Williams, who in contrast had to work for her 6&4 victory over Sylvia Masango.

Confident Dlamini ready for Sanlam SA Amateur battle

Nobuhle Dlamini emerged from Milnerton Golf Club’s Sunday afternoon mist with a two-stroke victory in the stroke play tournament that was no more than a warm-up for her attempt at the double in this week’s Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Championship.

The 36-hole stroke play serves as a seeding tournament for the main match play championship from Monday to Wednesday. And Dlamini reinforced her status as favourite with her rounds of 75 and 68 for a total of one over par 143.

The University of Pretoria lifted the USSA Championship title on Friday with an unparalleled performance in the A-Division at the Koro Creek Country Estate in Limpopo.

Although their second round match play triumph over The Golf School of Excellence – Johannesburg (TSGE-Jhb) effectively sealed their victory, the 2008, 2009 and 2011 champions kept their undefeated record intact by defeating the University of Stellenbosch A 6.5 – 2.5 in the final round.

Lara Weinstein accomplished what she set out to do when the defeated Kim Williams in a thrilling final to clinch the Gauteng North Womens Open title at Centurion Country Club on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old Royal Johannesburg and Kensington golfer won the closely fought contest with a regulation par after Williams paid the price of a wayward tee shot at the last hole.
