Double delight for Gauteng North at 72 Hole Teams Champs

Gauteng North celebrated an unprecedented double victory at the 72 Hole Teams Championship after lifting both the Swiss Teams Trophy and Challenge Trophy at Maccauvlei Golf Club on Wednesday.

The defending champions did not only retain their A-Division title, but their B-team finished second while their C-team held off a spirited challenge from Limpopo to capture the B-Division title. This marks the first time that one province has won both the coveted Swiss Teams Trophy and the Challenge Trophy since the B-Division was introduced in 2008.

Lombard rallies to win KZN Amateur Match Play

Pretoria golfer Zander Lombard was delighted to lift the 2013 KwaZulu-Natal Amateur Championship title after a demanding battle against defending champion Haydn Porteous at Umhlali Country Club on Sunday.

The final between South Africa’s two top ranked amateurs was an understandably tight match and Lombard could only celebrate his2 & 1 victory after both players parred the penultimate hole of the 36-hole final.

The 2013 KwaZulu-Natal Amateur Championship is set for an exciting final with the SA number one and defending champion Haydn Porteous going toe-to-toe with the country’s number two ranked amateur, Zander Lombard, at Umhlali Country Club on Sunday.

Just two days after his successful title defence in the Stroke Play qualifier, Porteous booked his berth in the final to line up his ninth victory this season. However, the Modderfontein golfer could be in for a tough challenge to secure the double for a second successive year.

After lifting the Stroke Play title for a second time in a row with a three shot victory on Wednesday, the country’s number one ranked amateur continued his winning march with victories in the first and second rounds of the match play.
