South Africa’s top ranked amateur Haydn Porteous continued his purple patch with a three shot victory in the KwaZulu-Natal Amateur Championship – Stroke Play Qualifier at Umhlali Country Club on Thursday.
Porteous opened with a four under 67 and took a one shot lead over Raynard Badenhorst and local favourite Christiaan van der Merwe into the final round of the 36-hole qualifier. He dropped just one shot on his way to a final round six-under-par 65 to clinch the title on 10-under-par 132.

The SAGA Juniors lifted this year’s SA Challenge Inter-Provincial with a spectacular performance as defending champions Central Gauteng wilted under pressure from Gauteng North at Maccauvlei Golf Club.
South Africa celebrated their fourth consecutive victory in the Regional All-Africa Challenge Trophy (RAACT) with another strong performance in the final round at Centurion Country Club on Thursday. The defending champions lifted the title with an overall score of 27-under-par 405, with SA captain Lara Weinstein and Sylvia Masango combing for a final round 139.
Defending champions Central Gauteng hit the front in Thursday’s fourth round at the SA Challenge Inter-Provincial in Vereeniging, while the North West strengthened their hold on the A-Section and Boland remained on track for promotion after their fourth successive win in this year’s SA Country Districts Tournament in Upington.
South Africa will take a commanding 37 stroke lead over Swaziland into the final round of the Regional All-Africa Challenge Trophy after the side combined for a second round nine-under-par 135. Lara Weinstein carded a 71 while Magda Kruger blisted the Centurion Country Club layout in 64 strokes keep South Africa’s title defence on track.
