Two of South Africa’s leading amateur golfers, Brandon Stone and Zander Lombard, made in their debut at the US Amateur Championship at Cherry Hills Country Club in Colorado on Monday, but both players failed to advance to the match play portion after two days of stroke play qualifying.

Bertine Strauss, on 150 (78, 72) is the leading amateur at the SA Open being played at Selborne Park Golf Club this weekend. A good level par 72 in windy conditions increased her chances of winning the Jackie Mercer Trophy awarded to the leadig amateur in this LET sanctioned event.
Namibia’s Bonita Bredenhann overcame the disappointment of a near miss two years ago and won the Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Match Play Championship at Benoni Country Club on Wednesday. Bredenhann beat KwaZulu-Natal’s Michaela Fletcher 3/2 in the final, producing some magnificent golf.
