Boy beats girl in play-off at Duke of York Young Champions Trophy

Harry Casey (pictured here with the Duke) won the Duke of York Young Champions Trophy when he defeated Harang Lee, the European Young Masters Girls’ champion, at a first extra hole where he was a whisker away from making a birdie. His friends had not envied him such a play-off situation and the player himself admitted that it had not been the easiest.

South Africa’s Haydn Porteous finished in third place.

New names in Inter-Prov line-up

Gauteng North A (Daisies) will be defending the Pick n Pay SA Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship title they have won for the past four years – in 2007 (Clovelly), 2008 (Umhlali), 2009 (Paarl) and 2010 (Irene) when the event is played at George Golf Club from 18 to 23 September 2011.

Top amateurs called up to fly SA flag

A dozen of South Africa’s top amateur golfers will be flying the South African flag at three international golf events this October and November.

The country’s top four ranked players – Brandon Stone, Haydn Porteous, Ruan De Smidt and Jared Harvey – will represent South Africa at The Four Nations Cup and Shirley Open in New Zealand while Graham van der Merwe, CJ du Plessis, Riekus Nortje and Daniel Hammond will do duty here at home in the African Amateur Golf Teams Championships (AAGTC).
