Lara and Bianca leads SA Girls, while Zanele cards 80 (68 net) to head B Division

Topping the leader-board at the Nomads SA Girls Championship being played at Orkney Golf Club on two-over par 74 are Gauteng’s Lara Weinstein and Bianca Theron from Boland. And tied in third position are Kelly Erasmus (WP) and Carrie Park (Gauteng North).

Leading the B Division (10 to 18 handicaps) and tied 12th in the tournament overall is Harrismith Golf Club’s Zanele Mazibuko. Playing off a 12 handicap, she returned an 80 and the low net score of the day – 68.

Reports from Poland

Mateusz Gradecki leads after the second round when he carded an even par 72 at the Toya Polish Junior a WJGS Event being played in Wroclaw this week. Mateusz was three under par leading the tournament by three shots after nine holes, but fell back on the inward nine to finish level par and lead the tournament by one shot. South Africa’s Armandt Scoltz pictured here, carded a great one-under 71 in round two after an indifferent first round.

SA Top Junior Lara Weinstein returned to the winners’ podium when she won the Limpopo Women’s Championships played at the spectacular Ledgends course on 18 and 19 June.

Great Britain and Ireland retained the Astor Trophy

Great Britain and Ireland retained the Astor Trophy on 19.5 points after an exciting final day at Fairhaven Golf Club. Trailing 0-2 from the morning foursomes, captain Tegwen Matthews’ team of five – Kelly Tidy, Amy Boulden, Holly Clyburn, Kelsey MacDonald and Pamela Pretswell picked four of the singles encounters to win 4 & 3. Favourites New Zealand was runner-up on 16 points.

South Africa with 13 points finished in third place, ahead of Australia (12) and Canada (9.5).

South Africa bounces back

South Africa bounced back from a 6-1 defeat by GB and I to beat Canada 5 ½-1 ½ on Day 3 of the Astor Trophy tournament at Fairhaven GC, Lancashire.

New Zealand is still on course for a crunch Saturday match against Great Britain and Ireland – but Australia gave them their toughest match so far before the Kiwis edged a 4-3 win.
