Astor Trophy team announced

The Protea team to represent South Africa at the Astor Trophy – formerley the 5 Nations Commonwealth tournamant – was announced by WGSA President Cynthia Rayner at the Samlam SA Women’s Amateur Tournament played at Rustenburg Golf Club last week.

The team, pictured here, is left to right Tiffany Avern-Taplin (KZN), Henriette Frylinck and Kim Williams (Gauteng North) Iliska Verwey (Southern Cape) and Bertine Strauss (North West Province). The non-playing Captain is Sandra Winter, the coach is Val Holland and the manager is Cynthia Rayner.

Verwey claims Sanlam Women’s SA Amateur

RUSTENBURG, North West (15 April 2011) – Iliska Verwey underlined her growing potential when she won an enthralling 34-hole marathon against Swaziland’s Nobuhle Dlamini to claim the Sanlam Women’s SA Amateur Match Play Championship title at Rustenburg Golf Club today.

Revenge on Kenya’s home turf

It was sweet revenge for the South African team as they took on Kenya in their back yard and beat them in the Africa Zon VI Championship which concluded today (Friday). The four round championship was staged at the Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa, Kenya. In all ten African countries were represented.

Underdogs rule at Sanlam Women’s SA Amateur

Match Play golf can be unpredictable and never more so than in today’s semi-final matches at the Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur at Rustenburg Golf Club.

In two tightly fought duels, underdogs Iliska Verwey and Nobuhle Dlamini fought their way past defending champion Kim Williams and local favourite Bertine Strauss while Rustenburg Lady Captain Thelma Dipperaar derailed 10-year-old Woo-Ju Son’s winning march in the B-Division.

High praise for WGSA at Sanlam Women’s SA Amateur

RUSTENBURG, North West (13 April 2011) – Bhavi Shah of Kenya and Angel Eaton from Tanzania heaped high praise on Women’s Golf South Africa for giving seven players from various African countries the opportunity to tee it up in this year’s Sanlam Women’s SA Amateur at Rustenburg Golf Club.
