Former top-ranked junior Bertine Strauss picked up her first 2011 provincial championship trophy when she recorded a 4/2 win over fast-improving junior Michaela Fletcher at the Border Match Play Championships played this week at East London Golf Club.

Kim Williams picked up her second 2011 provincial stroke play championship trophy when she carded a one-under par 145 to win the Border Championships at East London Golf Club yesterday. Four strokes back on 149 were four players who tied in the runner-up position – Tiffany Avern-Taplin, Bertine Strauss, Iliska Verwey and Lara Weinstein.
Haydn Porteous (pictured) found his rhythm, Herman Minnie found control, but only Scotland’s Kris Nicol found the top of the leaderboard as the morning field completed the second round of the Sanlam SA Amateur Qualifier at Vaal de Grace near Parys.
