He started the final round of the South African Mid Amateur Championship today two shots off the pace. After a testing 69, three under par, forty three year old Glendower Golf Club member Grant Wood was crowned the 2010 South African Mid Amateur Champion.

Tyrone Ryan was the only South African to break par in the first round of the French Mens International Amateur Match Play Championship which was played Thursday at Saint Germain Golf Club just outside the French capital city.

Robbie Oosthuizen, the defending champion, recorded a one under par 71 to reduce the gap on the two over night leaders after third and penultimate round in the South African Mid Amateur Championship being played today at ERPM Golf Club in Ekurhuleni.

Texas University sophomore (second year student) Dylan Frittelli has been named the 2010 Big 12 Conference Player of the Year for men’s golf it was announced at the end of April. Frittelli, who is a member of Irene Country Club in Gauteng North, was also selected to represent the All-Big 12 team.

Brandon Stone did everything he had to today, to win the Boland Open Championship by a shot.

Leading by three at the start of the day, Brandon had an answer to every drop he made or every birdie made by his closest challengers as the final six players in the filed fought for the title.

The final pitted WP Stroke-Play Champion Tyrone Ryan against former SA Champion, JG Claassen. Ryan was attempting to join Thomas Aitken (2001) and Ryan Tipping (2002) as winners of both the stroke-play and match-play titles in the same year.
