Port Elizabeth Golf Club last hosted the South African Women’s Amateur Championship in 1998 and this week women’s golf returns to the friendly city and the golf course that bears its name. This prestigious championship which was first played in 1906, will take place in Port Elizabeth from 11 to 16 April 2010.
On level par and with a couple of holes to play, hosts South Africa lead in the first round of the Africa Junior Teams Challenge played at Glendower Golf Club, Johannesburg. The first round is to be concluded tomorrow morning.
Host nation South Africa will start as the favourites to win the 72 hole Toyota World Junior Golf Teams Championship African Qualifying tournament which starts at Glendower Country Club in Bedfordview, Johannesburg on Monday.
University of Texas sophomore (second year student) Dylan Frittelli registered his second career collegiate victory on Thursday 18 March when he fired a 2-under 70, in the final round, and secured a three-stroke win at the 83-player 54 hole National Invitational Tournament at the par 72, Omni Tucson National Golf Course, in Tuscon, Arizona.
Izel Pieters wins the Rose Bowl
The 2010 Rose Bowl finished dramatically yesterday at Kloof Country Club when Izel Pieters claimed the championship on the first play-off hole against Bonita Bredenhann. Earlier, the two had tied on 217, one stroke ahead of Connie Chen.

Izel Pieters continued her form this afternoon when she carded a 74 after her sub-par 70 this morning to tie the lead. Connie Chen added a 73 to her earlier 71 to be level with Izel, and Bonita Bredenhann signed for the low score of the tournament, a two-under-par 69 to join the other two on 144. Local girl Monique Ramkisson, playing off a nine handicap, jumped to fifth on the leader board after a one-over-par 72.
Lara Weinstein and Izel Pieters lead the field after the first round of the SA Girls’ Rose Bowl being played at Kloof Country Club this week. Both players carded one-under-par 70’s, one stroke ahead of top ranked Connie Chen.
