The selection of the three Southern African players to the International Team to compete in the 72 Hole Teams Championship in May, confirms Women Golf’s commitment to support the growth of women’s golf in the southern regions of Africa. Connie Chen has low round of the day to draw level with leader

Connie Chen carded the low round on day two of the Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur when she signed for a one-under-par 71 to tie with Lara Weinstein and Kim Williams on 144. This should make for an exciting final round on the final day of the stroke play championship tomorrow at Port Elizabeth golf course, fondly known as The Hill.

Kim Williams confirmed her ranking as top woman amateur in the country when she carded a three- under-par 69 on a lengthened Port Elizabeth golf course today to head the leader board after the first round of the Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Championship.

Port Elizabeth Golf Club last hosted the South African Women’s Amateur Championship in 1998 and this week women’s golf returns to the friendly city and the golf course that bears its name. This prestigious championship which was first played in 1906, will take place in Port Elizabeth from 11 to 16 April 2010.

Izel Pieters wins the Rose Bowl

The 2010 Rose Bowl finished dramatically yesterday at Kloof Country Club when Izel Pieters claimed the championship on the first play-off hole against Bonita Bredenhann. Earlier, the two had tied on 217, one stroke ahead of Connie Chen.

Izel Pieters continued her form this afternoon when she carded a 74 after her sub-par 70 this morning to tie the lead. Connie Chen added a 73 to her earlier 71 to be level with Izel, and Bonita Bredenhann signed for the low score of the tournament, a two-under-par 69 to join the other two on 144. Local girl Monique Ramkisson, playing off a nine handicap, jumped to fifth on the leader board after a one-over-par 72.
