Woo-Ju Son described her final round in the Gauteng North Junior Championship as “very ordinary”, but even when the petite Gauteng junior punches below average, Son is tough to beat.
Just a month after a breakthrough victory in the Nomads WGWP Junior Championship at Durbanville Country Club, the Eagle Canyon golfer was delighted with a podium finish at Waterkloof Golf Club.

Amateur Samu leads pro stars in Cape Town Ladies Open

It was one for the books as top ranked amateur Ivanna Samu upstaged the country’s leading professionals to grab the first round lead in the Cape Town Ladies Open at Royal Cape Golf Club on Wednesday.
The lanky 17-year-old Ruimsig golfer showed some exceptional skills in a testy north-westerly wind to fire an opening six-under-par 68 for a one stroke lead over the high profile likes of Lee-Anne Pace, Ashleigh Simon and Monique Smit.

Meichtry and Myeki heading for EP Match Play clash

Top Swiss amateur Azelia Meichtry claimed her third amateur title on South African soil in the Eastern Province Championship on Sunday. The Sierre golfer edged out Zethu Myeki from Border by three strokes on even-par 144 to lift the Stroke Play division title in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality sponsored event at Port Elizabeth Golf Club.

Myeki takes page out of Dlamini’s book

Most golfers would be seriously frustrated to shoot 20 over par in a 54-hole championship and even more so if you are ranked among South Africa’s top three amateurs. Yet, Zethu Myeki from Border wore a great, big smile after a tie for 30th in her debut in the Ladies Joburg Open on the Sunshine Ladies Tour in early January.
