Lara and Izel tee off today in Annika Invitational

South African Juniors Izel Pieters (sporting new hairstyles) tee off today for the first round of the Annika Invitational, being played at the Reunion Resort – Independence (Watson) Course. Both girls are off the 10th tee – Lara at 08h18 and Izel in the next tee off time at 08h27.

Iliska is the Eastern Cape Match Play Champion

Cradock’s Iliska Verwey picked up the Eastern Cape Match Play Championship with a 4/3 victory over Vryburg’s Nicole Becker in the 18-hole final played at Port Elizabeth Golf Club yesterday afternoon. Earlier in the day Iliska had beaten Nicole Fourie 6/4 while Nicole Becker won a closely fought match against Tanica van As at the 19th.

Good start for Kim in 2011.

Top ranked Kim Williams picked up the first 2011 senior provincial championship trophy on Sunday when she scored a one-under 143 (68, 75) to win the Eastern Cape Women’s Stroke Play Championship played at Port Elizabeth Golf Club.

Kim is seen receiving her trophy from Nolan Vasi, Area Sales Manager for Nedbank Corporate in the Eastern Cape.

Lynn-Marié Nagel achieves top matric result

Lynn-Marie Nagel

Talented all-rounder Lynn-Marié Nagel, a three handicapped player from Pietersburg, achieved an average of 89% with seven distinctions. She also won the subject prize for Economics in Limpopo (98%). Her other subject marks were: Afrikaans first language 87%, English first additional language 82%, Mathematics (the real one ) 83%, Business Studies 88%, Accounting 89% and Life Orientation 94%.

Boland girls top the Gauteng North Junior Championship leaderboard

Devonvale Golf Club’s Olivia le Roux carded a two under par 71 to win the shortened Gauteng North Junior Championships played at Wingate Park yesterday. When the siren sounded for the lightning delay (which turned out to be the end of the event) she was level par after 27 holes.

Fellow Bolander, Bianca Theron carded level par 73 to finish runner-up, with Sammy Barber 77 (Western Province) and Kim Daniels 77 (Eastern Cape) in 3rd and 4th positions. Pictured above from the left are Bianca Theron, Olivia le Roux, Kim Daniels and Sammy Barber.

Lara cans 10 m putt to win at Durbanville

Top-ranked SA Junior, 16 year-old-Lara Weinstein canned a 10 metre putt to win the 36 hole Western Province Junior Championship played at Durbanville Golf Club yesterday. She finished on 146 (73, 73), one shot ahead of Mowbray’s Sammy Barber on 147 (75, 72). Kim Daniels (Uitenhage) and Monique Ramkisson (Scottburgh) tied for third position on 150.
