Monique Ramkisson scores hole-in-one in Boland Junior Championships

KZN’s Moinique Ramkisson scored her first hole-in-one when she aced her nine-iron tee shot at the par three seventh hole at Paarl Golf Club today in the first round of the Boland Junior Championships. The leader at the half-way stage of this inaugural championship event is Kuilsriver’s Bianca Theron who shot a one under par 71, one stroke ahead of KZN’s Michaela Fletcher’s par 72.

WGSA announces team to Annika Invitational

WGSA announced this week that top ranked juniors Lara Weinstein and Izel Pieters will represent South Africa at the third Annika Invitational tournament to be played at the Reunion Resort, Independence (Watson) course, Reunion, Florida USA from 18 to 21 February 2011. The manager is WGSA President Erica Lefson.

Bertine finishes fifth in Mexico

South Africa’s Bertine Strauss carded a final round of 76 to finish in fifth position at the Mexican Women’s Amateur Championship played at the Club de Golf Vallescondido this week. The team results are not available but it is unlikely that the SA team will have improved from their fourth place after round three.

USA tied with Mexico at the top of the individual leaderboard

USA’s Lee Lopez carded a one-over par 73 to tie the lead with Mexico’s Margarita Ramos on 223 (+7) when the third round of the Mexican Women’s Amateur Championship was played in New Mexico yesterday.

The South African team fell back one position to fourth place in the team event, and will be focus today on regaining their third place in the final round.

SA players retain third position in Mexico

Day two in Mexico was disappointing for the SA Players but they retain their third position in the International Pairs Tournament. Bertine Strauss is seventh in the individual competition on 158 (78, 80) while Tiffany Avern-Taplin is tied 10th on 162 (79, 83).

SA team 3rd in Mexico and Bertine cracks 7 distinctions in matric!

Bertine Strauss (78) and Tiffany Avern-Taplin (79) put South Africa in third place after round one of the 72 hole Mexican Amateur Championships being played in Mexico City this week. Bertine’s score included a triple drop – but as she heads into round two, she will have forgotten the error as she celebrates her seven distinction matric pass announced today.

Tiffany and Bertine head off to Mexico on 1 January

WGSA celebrates the start of 2011 by sending two top players to compete in the Mexican Women’s Amateur Championship and the International Pairs tournament to be played at the Club de Golf Vallescondidi in Mexico City.

Tiffany Avern-Taplin and Bertine Strauss leave on New Year’s day to compete in the championship which will be played from 5 to 8 January.
