South African won both the team events at the Hex City Albatross Junior Championships played in New Delhi this week. The-54 hole tournament finished today with South Africa’s juniors all on the prize rostram. Lara Weinstein was the overall winner in the A Division, with Izel Pieters runner -up in the girls’ A Division. Dylan Raubenheimer won the boy’s A Division and Thriston Lawrence lost on the second play-off hole in the boys’ B Division.
Kim Williams is top South African at Q-School
Kim Williams was the pick of the five South African golfers who competed in the first stage of the Ladies European Tour qualifying school, held in La Manga Golf Club, Cartegena, Spain.
The South African juniors all posted great scores in the second round of the Hex City Albatross Junior Championships being played in New Delhi this week.
Four South African junior golfers tee off today in the second 54 hole Hex City – Albatross Junior Golf Championship in India. Former top ranked Bertine Strauss ends her school days tomorrow when she writes her final matric exam. She will join Tiffany Avern-Taplin in representing South Africa at the Mexican Women’s Amateur Championships and International Pairs Tournament to be played in Mexico City from 5 – 8 January 2011.
Determined to play well at her last amateur tournament this weekend, Kim Williams finished on eight under par, carding 67 and 69 (136), to win the Mpumalanga Women’s Championships by seven strokes from Swaziland’s Nobuhle Dlamini on 143 (74, 69). Gauteng’s Michelle Leigh, playing consistent golf, signed for 75 and 74 (149) to finish in third position.
Kim Williams is well-prepared and her low rounds will stand her in good stead as, together with Iliska Verwey, Henriette Frylinck and Nicole Becker, she leaves tomorrow for Spain where the girls will try to qualify for the professional Ladies European Tour in 2011. They will be in Europe for a month, playing in the various qualifying events. Connie Chen who has already turned professional will join them.
2009 SA Match Play Champion, Swaziland’s Nobuhle Dlamini won the Ladies Open Amateur Championship of Nigeria on a two-over par 148 from South Africa’s Lumien Orton on 150 when the event was played at Abuja on Friday and Saturday 12 and 13 November. Nobuhle is seen here with the High Commissioner of Zambia and the President of LGAN.
The South African Team of Lumien Orton, Tiffany Avern-Taplin and Henriette Frylinck successfully defended the All African Challenge Trophy championship played in Abuja, Nigeria this week. Henriette won the Individual Championship.
