SA team off to solid start at Africa Zone VI Champs

The South African team made a solid start to their title defence at this year’s Africa Zone VI Golf Championships at Lilongwe Golf Club in Malawi with positive results in all eight opening singles matches.“I think we reaped the rewards of a team that was strong from one to eight,” said South African Golf Association president, Colin Burger.

Lejan, Alana and Kim to represent SA at the All Africa

Women’s Golf South Africa President Cynthia Rayner announced the team to represent South Africa at the All Africa Challenge Trophy to be played at Phakalane Golf Estate in Botswana from 2 to 7 June 2012.

The team is Lejan Lewthwaite (pictured), Alana van Greuning and Kim Williams. Manager Cynthia Rayner. Bertine Strauss will join the team immediately afterwards to play in the Botswana Open at Gaberone Golf Club on 9 and 10 June.

SA Team announced for ground-breaking Scottish Tour

The South African Golf Association (SAGA) announced a six-man team that will compete in three international events in Scotland between 28 May and 25 June, as well as a test against the Scottish Golf Union’s Mens Squad. The team consists of the country’s number two ranked player, Haydn Porteous, as well as CJ du Plessis, Shaun Smith, Gert Myburgh and Drikus Bruyns, currently ranked fourth to seventh on the SAGA Rankings, and 10th ranked JP Strydom.

Dlamini claims wire-to-wire victory at Sanlam Women’s SA Stroke Play

Swaziland’s Nobuhle Dlamini survived a late round wobble to end a three year wait with a brilliant wire-to-wire victory in the Sanlam Women’s Amateur SA Stroke Play Championship at Umhlali Country Club on Tuesday.
The Tuks Golf Academy student started with an eight shot lead and fired a final round two-over-par 73 to put the seal on a magnificent performance and a runaway victory.

Amateur golfers from around the country have gathered for this year’s South African U-23 Inter-Provincial Championship at Nelspruit Golf Club and were delighted when the Minister of Sport and Recreation, Fikile Mbalula, put it an unexpected appearance at the official opening on Sunday.
