South African Senior Amateurs tour the UK – August 2010

The S.A. Senior Amateur Golf Association sent a 10 man side to the UK, primarily to play, as individuals, in the British Senior Amateur Open at Walton Heath Golf Club. The team departed on Mon 2 August and consisted of the ten top players from the SASAGA Order of Merit, namely, Jock Wellington, Tim Hewan, Robbie Meier, Andy Ostle, Anton Vortsman, Gavin Van Aswegen, Dirk Swanevelder, Brian Lottering, Jonathan Hobday and Steve Cullen.

Stone wins the Southern Cape Open

Brandon Stone who playes golf out of Gardener Ross, Gauteng North, won for the second time this year as he held on to win the Southern Cape Open at Mossel Bay Golf Club by two shots from a charging Riekus Nortje.

Durban Country Club will host the 100th playing of the South African Open Championship from 16-19 December 2010. This was confirmed by the South African Golf Association and Dlamini Weil Communications, the new promoters of South Africa’s flagship golf tournament.

De Beer returns from college to lift the Limpopo Amateur Open trophy

The Limpopo Amateur Open was held at Koro Creek from 9 – 11 July 2010. A total of 157 entries were received and a pre-qualifying round was held the day before the tournament proper began.

The Koro Creek golf course played host to its first tournament of this magnitude since it underwent a redesign and a name change from what used to be called the Nylstroom golf club.
